"I must be going, for it is time for me to pray. I bid thee all good day, we shall meet again in the morn." Soabathil leaves the room, and readies himself for the coming day.

Tyreal
"Thank you for the offer Korbin, and maybe I shall take up on it later, but I would first like to see the lodgings being offered by the Adventurers Union and then maybe take a stroll around the city". He then gets up and proceeds to head towards his lodgings.

The lodgings the Union has provided for you are nothing special for these times. A bed, a table at its side; a mirror, a closet and a small bathroom; there are stables for horses, and a small shop. The town of Newcastle is a very large commercial center. The main roads are cobblestone and lined with plenty of shops selling everything one could possibly imagine. There are many people from all walks of life, aristocrats and farmers, strolling through these areas, buying common goods, everything from fruits and vegetables to horses to swords and scrolls. And yes, there are brothels also but they are closed at this time in the afternoon. Try as you might though you cannot find completely poor and homeless people. Everyone seems to have some source of income; money can't be hard to come by with all the tourists and travellers who pass through Newcastle. As you look about you see everyone is in a cheerful mood, and the weather appears to be quite pleasant.

(So no one besides me and Mark is going to role play...Very well then.)
Finding a comfortable sitting position in Korbin's home, Pierre begins to relate his story.
"I was not always of these lands. I was born and bred in the green rolling hills of France - a fine country if there ever was one. At the tender age of twelve, I was chosen to represent my village in the order of Carthusian monks. They were emissaries of the Catholic church, and exemplars of moral standards. Err...you don't exactly know what the Catholics are, do you? Well, they were a fine organization of faith, bringing the people of the country together in the worship of a single God. Anyway, I became a member of respected standing in the monastery, and eventually, I was chosen to embark on a mission to root out the growing darkness in that world. Several months of fruitless searching later, we finally found the first evidence of the growth of darkness - some terrible aberrations that killed everyone that I was with. After the battle, I was drawn into some dark portal that had been hidden in their lair, which drew me into this world. I wound up in the home of Soabathil, the half-giant cleric. He introduced me to the monasteries of Heironeous, who I now follow. Since then, my life has been quite ordinary until I was assigned this mission."
Pierre takes a long draught from his glass of water.

[[The lands of the half-giants are in the desert. They are mostly giants but I suppose that if you worship Heironeous, you two would be from near the Dwarven mountains. Also, nobody else is bothering to role play because this is pretty much the time you guys should go 'no, I go to sleep' and wait for the next day... 'Course I could just roll some random encounters... Yeah but anyway, this is just all flavour text / actual-RPing by you and Mark, so finish it up quick, you have a long day ahead!]]

((Actually, at this time were supposed to go into all the houses and search for random items such as ethers and healing sprays hidden in closets and cabinets and the like. We should also be talking to random NPCs who will all basicly tell us what we already know, such as "There have been quite a number of people migrating down from the south these days" or "The Adventurers Union has sent a few partys up north, but no ones heard from them since". Atleast we should if this was a videogame....so anyway...))
Tyreal Baston
After visiting his lodgings and checking his things to see that everything was ready for tomorrows quest, Tyreal heads out into the city to visit the local tavern ((I take my longsword with me assuming its not illegal to have weapons here in the city)). At the tavern he takes an empty spot by the bar and tells the barkeeper, "I'll have a pint of ale".

The bar you enter is called 'The Glass Eye.' Its owner/bartender has a glass eye, and is quite large and grizzly looking. He 'eye's you suspiciously and hands over a pint, after which he goes about his regular service.
There aren't very many people at the bar; the few people who are there are quiet and shady, sipping slowly on their drinks. The bar itself is rather dusty and old, and the bartender keeps knick knacks around the place. You notice a few trophies along the walls as well as a few swords.

Korbin nods at the man taking down notes, "Ahhh, thank you Pierre if you wish you could spend the night, or I could show you about town, or both?"

"Ah, I would most certainly be congenial to both," Pierre replies.

Korbin takes Pierre on the grand tour of Newcastle, then brings him home where they have a nice dinner and then go to sleep.

You all are in the same room the next day. In addition to the guard and the Lieutenant, there is another guard arranging a line of supplies which are lined across the wall; and a spry young lad in light armor and glasses sitting at the conference table. After the greetings, the Lieutenant introduces him as Chet. "He will be your guide for most of this expedition. He does not have many combat skills but should be a valuable addition to your party." He then lays out the map from the previous day and outlines the course. "You all will take the road from Newcastle to Portsmouth, about 6 days. At Portsmouth you will load up on supplies and take the ferry into Elven lands. From there, you all should head to Holmiondel and up to Vonnor, if the weather permits. Otherwise you may take a different course or wait it out. You shouldn't have problems but with the Dwarves, you can never really be sure. From there make your way across the desert and do your reconaissance work. Most of that will be done by Chet. We have ouposts in Vonnor so after you are done surveying the land, travel back to Vonnor and contact us from there. If you should encounter anything strange on the way, keep detailed records of it, understood?" [[Time for questions later!]] "Now," he says pointing to the bags along the wall, "those will be your supplies for the trip." He and the other guard known as Rich hand out the equipment consisting of: Backpack Bedroll Map & Case Firewood Handaxe Dagger Flint and Steel Lantern Oil Pots Rope Trail Rations (6) Signal Whistle Waterskin He also provides a total of 3 tents. Edit: I forgot the most important thing! He also supplies you all with a tight closed metal cannister which he says contains a scroll of Teleport. In the event of an emergency and only in such a case may you use this scroll to escape back to either Vonnor or Newcastle. He then leads you out to the stables and gives you all saddles and horses. "As I understand it, you two have your own mounts." He points to Tyrael and Korin. He gives the rest of you regular horses and feed, but Soabathil is given a larger horse Edit: And Milo is given a pony. "Now, any questions?" *Stats for hoses: www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/horse.htm

So you depart from Newcastle! Along the way, Chet (he doesn't give his last name), shows you some identification papers and fills you all in a bit on the history of Tyne and how the pristine lands were won in the great war. "The king ordered all vagrants, disgracefuls, and impure creatures out of his kingdom. The Dwarves," he continues, " preferred the mountains and the Elves did not want to be part of the kingdom. The rest -- well, they either sailed off or were banished from these lands." The lands are hilly with many farms growing various crops, and cotton and rice seem to be abundant. Chet seems to be enjoying it. It is around 6 o'clock when you all come to the top of the hill, overlooking a dark forest; on the horizon you can see the shimmering lights of Portsmouth. You hear a sound off to your right (the North), somewhere across the hills of the road. The sound draws closer and closer to you, until you can make out the figure of a man in the distance, on another knoll. He seems to be shouting "Help, help!" and running from something. He soon reaches you all, dishevelled and gasping for breath.

What ails you, sir? Milo asks the guy who is obviously being chased by a monster.

He collapses to his knees and manages to say, after catching his breath "Hawks, came outta nowhere, didn't think they came this far south..." He points in the direction he was running from. You can see 2 dark figures quickly getting larger. Before you know it, you can clearly see their details. You hear one shreak loudly. "They're coming, run!" He attempts to run but is obviously much too tired, and falls unconscious. You can see bloody scratch marks on his back.
Roll initiative, post first actions, etc... Edit: They're not in melee range yet, and too high to attack with melee weapons.
