So I'm going to be home at some point in Mid-December (somewhere between the 15th and 17th), and not leaving till mid January (somewhere between the 11th and 16th). So that leaves time for a couple of sessions if we're all up for it. I was thinking of doing some d20 Modern (or something else, I've been thinking of trying to whip up some sort of low fantasy d20 variant) to do a sort of urban fantasy game. We never hold much interest in things using the d20 Modern system, or set in the modern day so I figured a short period of time would be a cool time to try it. So I guess I'm just tossing this out to have you guys think of some characters that would fit in a big city (typical debate between New York, Chicago, and LA), that have had some kind of experience with the supernatural.

Yup, I always wanted to see where the Zombie campaigns would've ended up.
There's also my Star Wars idea I sent to all of you on Facebook. I plan on it to be harder than the previous one, but not "Tynan Hard." IE: No level 3 Ewoks with doubled edged lightsabers (as a parallel to the kobolds with spiked chains).

Hey, those were only 1st level fighters. I'm pretty sure I could make four Lv3 characters that could kill some kobolds.

But could you find 4 people who want to play Dungeons & Tynans?
I mean, I'm always up for it, but I'd probably die every encounter.

Well, look at what we had:
2 members missing. 1 member who was new to Dnd and refused to heal, as it was his job at the cleric. Brian. And me.
Really, you were expecting too much for us to have handled level 1 kobolds, even at level 4.

Wait Wait Wait... You guys got mauled by lvl 1 Fighters who were Kobolds?! At FOURTH Level?!!
No offense, while Tynan is a hardcore GM with intense npcs, and even armed with Spiked Chains...Three of you (especially with a cleric not healing) should've been able to handle it. Even a simple grease spell could've fucked over a couple what with fighters having a lack of balance and first level characters not having much in the way of reflex saves. I mean really!!
A group of 2nd level experienced players were able to have an epic battle with a 5th-Level Wizard with a hoard of 8 skeletons.
2 experienced players plus a new caster should've worked out fine.

Not when the three are a bad cleric who actually refused to use any spells but CLW on himself, a ranged rogue, and a bard. And the kobolds were using Improved Disarm and Trip every single turn while still getting an attack in.
True, we did have NPC Fighter and Warmage, but Tynan still made the kobolds completely outside normal kobold-dom.
Plus, we're stupid! And we suck! Duh!

Wait ok... So obviously the Cleric was fighting when not healing himself. A 4th-Level cleric is a pretty competent fighter... The rogue could've dropped the bow for the ease of a rapier or longsword with which to get flanking with the fighter (or cleric). Just cause you're specialty is ranged doesn't give you an excuse not to fight in melee. The Bard could've boosted everyone's attack/damage and then gone in with some kind of weapon since they like Clerics and Rogues are competent at 4th level... The fighter could've been used to flank and deal damage while the warmage spat out spells.
Even first level fighters of any race still only have like 10-14 hp, they should've been at least one-hit kills for the fighter, and one or two hits for the rest of you. I think you're all crazy!

Wait, there's no way they could've been level 1, since they had around 24 HP! That's 2 or 3. Tynan, you have your notes, look it up.
The cleric didn't know what flanking meant and just ran headlong into melee, attracting all the hits that the fighter wasn't getting. The fighter was made by Tynan as the typical Monkey Grip Weighted Greatsword, and Tynan knew it to be the largest threat and therefore disarmed and tripped him. He spent the majority of the fight picking up his sword, losing it right away, and falling back down on his ass. Tynan controlled the warmage, so I think he might've not used him to full potential. Brian... is Brian. And I lacked a melee weapon, having spent all my money on my bow and armor and whatnot, and we were imprisoned at the beginning of the campaign and forced to do the bidding of some fat lord, no time to buy a melee weapon.
It's just that we suck, Mark. You know this already. Don't you remember that I can never live through a full campaign, except when I had the hacked +9 chainshirt?

You...didn't...have a melee weapon.... There's no fucking excuse for that. Do you learn nothing from when I game alongside of you?! You should have weapons that deal every damage type of all shapes and sizes...use the ones that double up on damage types too! Jeez, if you only had a bow, I'd be afraid to see what would have happened if skeletons had come at you with their mighty DR 5/Bludgeoning! And dammit! You're an adventurer, why didn't you just pick a sword or dagger off of a dead body! You guys are just, good lord you're all just retarded!!!!

In my defense, every time I attacked, save for once, I missed. And I think the one time I hit, it was when I got frustrated and tried tripping one of the kobalds back. And then when I switched to a short bow, I was only doing like 2 or 3 damage at a time, on those few chances I ever hit anything!
And remember, we're "smart people", ok?

The only battles before the kobolds were against halforcs. Nothing but great axes.
And arrows deal piercing damage. Nyeh!
I thought you had tripped a dire rat, Brian. Somehow, you managed that with your whip.

You could've picked up the greataxe and used it at the -4 penalty, or you could've dropped a kobold and picked up one of its weapons. Did you search the Half-Orcs, I wouldn't be surprised if they were carrying daggers. Exactly arrows only do one type of damage. If you went up against something like a skeleton with DR 5/Bludgeoning, your piercing would have to be reduced by 5 first because it's not bludgeoning. Finally...ONE OF YOU USED A WHIP?! What the fuck?!
