Brian, have you ever stayed up that late? You get restless, and you usually end up (seemingly) no longer tired. Still, the minute I put my head on a pillow I'm exhausted, and end up sleeping all day. How do you only sleep an hour, Avi?

Yeah, it rolls over, but still, that;s only like 27 hours over 3 days... ...Uh, which I guess is still normal... Maybe there's some loss in the sleep rollover hours. Brian: Well, I didn't exactly survive... ...I can stay up all night, but get sleepy around noon. I think 2 years ago, I was awake for about 4 days straight. Dunno how the fuck I pulled that off. Lauren: Eh, I was pretty tired. I had to set my alarm clock with a screwdriver and metal pen, but it's worth it, seeing's how it makes sure I get up with borderline heart failure every fucking morning. But what about you - 4:44am? Mark: I was pretty damn tired today too, could barely play in jazz.
I need to restock some RedBull. The jacked apple juice + orange juice + pomegranate juice just isn't cutting it in the morn.

Bazavluk
Capital: Altongrad Population: 9, 000, 000 (99% Halfling, 1% Mixed) Exports: Produce, Foodstuffs, Heavy Industry, and Refugee/Adventurers.
The tale of the Halflings is an interesting one that begins in the history of the Giants, the Giant Empire was a large one, and the Giants themselves were a people who did not have time to do the practical things that were needed to keep society running, what they needed was a slave labor force, and this force would be found in the Halflings. Halflings were small, plentifuly and to a giant, easy to grab and bring home. The nomadic Halflings already roamed throughout the Giant's lands and so they were soon grabbed and turned into slaves. Many people say it was watching their Giant masters that taught them the skills of smithing, warfare, magic, and of course fuedalism. The Halflings were considered a very good labor source, they were fast, rarely seen, and able to handle the simple tasks Giants couldn't be bothered with. Eventually though the Giants disbanded, but of course they had released demons upon their homeland, and eventually this turned into demons being released upon thier slaves. THe Halflings were slaves once more, but eventually a group of great warriors appeared and rid the Halflings of the Demons, these people were considered of "Holy Blood" and were given the right to rule the Halfling people. As the Holy Lords expanded and solidified their nation with great armies and Warrior-Leaders known as Samurai, they encountered the Gnomes, who had settled upon the ancient burial grounds of the Halflings, though the sites had not been used since before the Enslavement, they were considered sacred in the minds of the Halflings, over the course of history many wars were fought over control of the holy lands, each time resulting in the Halflings returning home after a bloody conflict. As time passed, the Holy Lords descendants became corrupted, using thier absolute power to gain many things, the people became very similar to the slaves they once were, only this time they were working for their Lord. Land was often rewarded to those who did many services for the Lord, and often these lesser lords would squabble between themselves, letting their lands fluctuate as they fought inbetween each other. Eventually, the populace at large became tired of the fact that they were being used to keep their leaders in the lap of luxury while they recieved nothing but shelter and food if they were lucky. An aestetic by the name of Shirai Okina arose during this time, and claimed that if the Halflings could throw off the shackles of oppression they would be able to move forth into a peaceful existance underneath a sun that was forever shining upon them. No one ever truly knew what Shirai meant by throwing off the shackles of oppression or even by a peaceful existence, but eventually interpretations appeared all of which spoke of fierce combat with the lords. A year after Okina's passing, the Halflings began the struggle against the lords. At first it was simple sabotage, and assainations, but eventually it rose into full blown war. Farmers struck at their Samurai rulers, bringing them down with sickles and stolen or poorly crafted Katanas. Eventually multiple armies formed, most of them called themselves Bazavluk (a word from the dialect of Halfling used by the common people, now known as Neo-Halfling, meaning equality), the armies eventually banded and assualted the city of Erano, the leader of the charge was a well known interpreter of Shirai's Scirptures, Alton (his last name was lost to time or non-existent), he slaughtered the last of the Holy Lords with a blade he had personally crafted, the city was dubbed Altongrad (Alton's City), and then began modernization (a process it continues to go through). The Halfling people took Shirai's Scriptues and gave the system they developed from them Communism (System for the Community). Currently, Bazavluk is a place filled with lush farmlands, military bases, and the beginnings of industrial cities. The people are content since every single person is rationed the same amount of food, clothing and shelter, there is very little trade within Bazavluk itself, though it is possible to purchase or sell goods to the Governent if you do not live within the country. For now it seems as if Bazavluk might one day become a mighty nation, and it has already been noticed by many Eastern Nations, relationships between Bazavluk and many nations are tense due to the people s upbeat attitude and the fact that Halflings living outside of the country seem to tell a very different story than its diplomats.
Industries
From the earliest recorded Halfling history, they have always been farmers, and it is still very true today. With one of the largest populations in the world, their nation must produce more food than most countries just to keep themselves fed let alone selling to other countries. Luckily Bazavluk has multiple climates suited for growing a variety of produce, from citrus fruits in orchards south of Altongrad, to the potatoes in the northern areas. Their large production rate has turned them into a nation that many places trade with for food, and Bazavluk is quite happy to trade away tons of food for new technology. Heavy Industry, such as iron smelting, is a growing industry in Bazavluk, the nation craves to be on the same level as world powers and is therefore trying to play catch up technology-wise and they are doing a good job. A well-known fact is that Bazavluk has a darker side to it. Though you will never hear it from a diplomat or people who inhabit areas where foreigners are allowed, a large amount of the populace is unhappy with their current situation but are powerless against those who are in control, so many people leave the country through secret systems or loopholes in the laws behind adventuring licenses to get out of the country.
Life and Society
In Bazavluk, all are equal, everyone lives in the same Spartan conditions, receives the same amount of food, and receives the same treatment. Loyalty to the state is all that is required of the people, and a large number are willing to do anything for their country it almost reaches the point of fanaticism. The entire culture revolves around working for the state all must work and hold their place in society to be treated equally, so says the State. As already stated a large number of people are unhappy and cannot stand the lack of individualism in their country. Many groups who practice the old ways (Code of Bushido, Shadow Walking, etc.) whether or not they are allowed to assist in moving such people out of the country, and every year they become more efficient at it, allowing for more and more people to come out and tell their story. The Military has an important role in regular society. Nearly every town supports a garrison, and all men must serve in the military, and some women do as well but their time is not fixed as a man’s is. The Military also has a large amount of power since it not only defends the borders it also polices the country.

Government and Politics
The idea of Communism formed from the ideas of an aesthetic named Shirai Okina. Shirai having lived in a monastery had long seen the benefits of working together, and having equality among all, there were teachers and leaders yes, but they only guided and were not in true control, they were respected for their wisdom and deeds but not all students or those within the monastery had to follow their rules. Shirai looked out and saw far from equality in the world, he began a pilgrimage throughout the land and told people of how they needed to become equal, and live in an eternal noon sun, Shirai’s ideas and scriptures were very popular among the people, and eventually, when the bloody days of reckoning came it was from Shirai’s Scriptures that the idea of equality among all known as Communism was forged. Communism does rule over the land in this day, though some might say that it is not as equal as it claims to be. The government is ruled by a group called The Party, who are the creators of Communism, The Party rules all fairly and decides what must be done in the land, their rule is unquestionable and some say absolute. In dealing with other countries, Bazavluk generally tries to use their large standing military in anything, and they also try to hold their agricultural production to gain what they want. Their goals when dealing with other nations are simple, grab technology, and power, and do so quickly.
Power Groups
In the nation of Bazavluk only a few groups hold power.
The Party: The Communist Party is the ruling group in the nation. Their word is law, and they plan ever facet of the country, from when people must begin work to when the armies march to war. The current leader of The Party is Major Secretary Oshimi Tanaka (also referred to as Father Tanaka)
The Military: The Military not only requires service of all men, but it also enforces and interprets laws in an area. They are truly powerful and gain a large amount of money from the national budget. The current Military Director is Perla Ivanovitch, she is ruthless and under her direction the military has become a group of strict discipline that she claims rivals the best military forces in the world.
Monks of Saint Ivan: The Monks of Saint Ivan are a group who claim to believe in the works of a commoner during the Rise of the Red Sun, who believed that he was gifted by the creator of the Halflings to lead them to peace and equality, he eventually died in battle, but his message still exists. Of course, the Monks of Saint Ivan are not what they claim to be, in reality they are people of the old nations, descendants of lords and the like, who help people get out of the country, they believe in repenting for what they did in the old world by helping people leave the new one which is just as bad.
People's Champions: These fierce warriors are people who epitomize the ideas held by the people in Bazavluk. Most are warriors left over from the war against the "Holy Lords" though some are members of the new generation, people who see communism and have their spirits lifted, it is the right thing to work together! (A/N PrC in development).
Religion
This opium of the masses has been all but eliminated. Since religion was a tool of the “Holy Lords” it has been highly disregarded in this age, as all but very few old world ideas have been.

Diggery Doo
Capital: Derro'Guolbur'Kartal Population: 6, 500, 000 (94% Gnome, 4% Halfling, 2% Dwarf) Exports: Armor, Gems, Raw Metal, Refined Ores, Crafted Goods, and Missionaries.
The ancestral home of the Gnomes lies in the norhtern part of Diggery Doo, in the capital city of Derro'Guolbur'Kartal, meaning in ancient Gnomish City of God. According to Gnome legend here were planted the seeds of Gnomish civilization, supposedly Kartalaflink birthed the Gnomes through the world, and they were thrust out from the earth, and pulled out by some of Kartalaflink's kindest creature Badger. Eventually the Gnomes gleaning power through prayer to Kartalaflink (they learned of their god from Badger), grew into a small city-state founded upon the basic principles of their God. As the Gnomes spread, they learned of the Dwarves who they believe to be some sort of lost cousin since they too were born of the earth itself, and they had many a great war with the Halflings a race of peculiar people that believed the Gnomes were encroaching upon some sort of holy lands. As the Gnomes grew in power they eventually began reaching out into the owlrd wishing to spread the word of their God, as they expanded so did their culture. They slowly changed from clerics and devout followers to merchants, this of course eventually lead to the establishment of the Merchant Princes, a group of southern merchants who still held the belief of Kartalaflink but concentrated upon worldly possessions, they regulated trade for thousands of years. Eventually the clerics became elitists, and a type of fuedalism ruled the Gnomes for some time, during this period the common man of course concentrated on common tasks smithing, woodworking, farming, etc. As time passed the Clerics became the rulers of the Gnomes, and learning of divine magic was completely controlled by them, and so commoners continued their spiral into crafting.
Industries
In Diggery Doo, the people follow the Church unquestioningly. The Church of course keeps the people down through stiff regulations and laws. This has resulted in a lack of technology and a following of Gnomish tradition in Diggery Doo. One of the largest type of items created and exported in Diggery Doo, are hand crafted items mainly of wood but of metal and stone as well, these things are valued though Elven products are held in far higher regard. The ancient Gnomish arts of gem mining and cutting are still widely performed in the country and it is said no finer gems can be found than those from Diggery Doo. Mining of metals, and refining them into ore goes right along with gem mining, and is a time honored Gnomish craft. Of course, as in any highly religious state, one of their industries is missionaries, Diggery Doo has always been fond of sending Missionaries throughout the world to preach the words of Kartalaflink, it rarely gains followers but it does on occasion.
Life and Society
Diggery Doo-ers are a people who focus on religion and tradition. The entire society reflects this, every home has a small shrine, and all people pray to the shrine at dawn and before they retire to bed in the evening. Every person is expected to do as Church officials say, meaning they must abide by the laws of Kartalaflink, which can be strict at times and can be very lax, depending upon the priest in charge. Also, the entire populace is heavily xenophobic, outsiders are normally assaulted on site by border patrols, and unless someone bears proper identification they are generally thrown out of the country forcefully. Any outside idea is heavily repressed leading to what some call stagnation but what the Diggery Doo-ers call security.
