When I'm talking about evil, I'm speaking of pure evil... (afterall, evil is entirely relative). Anyway... So, you're saying those undead skeletons we killed have depth? That each and every kill we make (in game) sends shockwaves that affects others in ways we can't comprehend? Right... By the way, (in real life) we gain experience from killing, say, an ant? What skills are we improving then? Our "ant killing" skills? "My ant killing is 17!" "Well, my ant killing skill is 25! I pwn you!"

Those skeletons have depth, yes, believe it or not they do, see first off those skeletons existed as something at some point or another, some of which were just abiding by their own business, then when they became skeletons they became something for someone else (probably guards for Necromancers) and when you killed them, you disturbed something, creating a series of shockwaves, always consider your actions in or out of game as a rock in a pool they create ripples, then consider your abilities to react or refrain as a way to control those ripples, and you therefore can learn to control every thing that goes on in your life...
I believe L. Ron Hubbard put it best with the following: LIFE TIME SPACE ENERGY MATTER As WE are life, we can control this scale. Most living creatures are so much the effect of their environment that they think it controls them. But as long as you think this way, you won't get anyplace much...If you get the idea that they control you, you wind up a failure.
Everything is at your command, in and out of game. But if we speak strictly in game, everything is at your command to an extent where I step in and say, "This must happen here." and I do like to occassionally make your attempt to control those factors fail miserably, so as to make fun side stories.
And yes you are learning something, why you feel a need to kill is up to you, why you wish to improve such a thing is beyond me, but you do figure things out and improve the abilities and technique that you use in such acts(I'd hope).
BTW these sorts of posts should be put on an RP or philosophy thread not on my frelling Campaign Setting thread! This is just one more reason why I need real Admin power around here....

Mark, I'm touched.
To put it bluntly, RPing is a nice outlet for me to kill stuff and laugh a lot. And use spells. Oh, those spells...

Mark, it's very simple: fantasy and reality: two different things. The same rules don't always to apply in fanaticial settings as they do in real life settings. But, this is getting out of hand, and I say we stop, and let Mark continue with his campagain setting, which we will all most likely continue to ignore. Agreed?

Nothing I said implies that I confused the two, therefore to make that statement serves no purpose but angering me. And actually, in this case the idea that what we do causes ripples, and reactions and our ability through our actions to control such can be applied to both.

Mark, if what you're talking about is the fact that each and every action, no matter how small, causes a reaction, to a point we wouldn't necessarily think of (like ripples in a pond), then I agree with you. However, in a DND campaign, this isn't necessarily true, as the DM might not have the capability to have every action cause a strong reaction - such as, say, killing a undead creature. Do you understand me? In the meantime, my offer to leave this argument as it is still stands.

Hrmn.
I hate having thoughts in my head and not being able to form coherent sentances at the same time.
It's like... You already have the real world, and the game designers of D&D took aspects from this world (physics, weights, basic character shapes, etc.) and put it into a fantasy world. It's based on this world. So is Mark's campaign setting, I guess (including geography). So, it's not like one of us kills a person and that has no effect on anything else. I mean, the opposing army/troupe/squadron/collection of skeletons/band of dwarves/civil union of merry elves/clan of racist unicorns we just killed did not live in absolute seclusion. They had parents (or whatever), maybe friends, or a summoner, etc. They don't just appear on their own (Well...)
You know what, fuck it. I can't even go somewhere with this. I guess my brain just needed an excuse to make a gay elf joke.

Yes, Avi, it would have a reaction: if the world actually existed. However, seeing as it came from Mark's mind, there parents do not techinally exist, and thus there is no reaction, except for the one inside our own heads.
Of course, that brings up the question if anything actually exists, and if reality is all in our heads...
(Er, nevermind that last sentance...)
Anyway, let's end this discussion. Agreed?

hate to point it out Lauren, but Avi is correct, you must remember the infintessimal (sp?) amount of time I have on my hands, everything you do in my world, has a reaction in my world. I understand your generalization that not all DMs have this time, but, yours (a.k.a. me) does have this time, in fact I think it is the game designers intention to have game worlds result in reactions as well, just looking in the monster manual you can find monsters that are made to be effects of the players actions. A reaction still takes place in the game world, since you are a player in the game world, the reaction occurs and can effect you, since as a player the actions and reactions take place not only in my head but in yours as well, therefore there are reactions that occur because of what both you and NPCs do. So there are always reactions.
Simply put, since I believe at this point the best way is to be straightforward: In game actions cause in game reactions, and if you say they don't, just remember I have a helluva a lot fo time on my hands and will make sure that there are reactions.

Yeah, how do we prove that all this is real? As a famous black mage once said, "How do you prove we exist? Maybe we don't exist..."
Vivi's awesome.
