Eh, whatever floats your boat. Torkoal still sucks, though; a Defensive Fire type. Great idea, if it weren't for a little attack called Earthquake. Heck, even Rock Slide could take 'im.
Yeah, and Cooking Mama is availiable on the DS as well. Plus, you can get Diamond/Pearl as well, and join in our little festivities!

Rockslide was actually a really good move, if I remember correctly. Did alot of damage, had a decent number or Power Points, and it looked neat to. I would have sworn that Torkoal was also half ground or rock type... but it seems I would be wrong. And hey, every pokemon has a weakness to something, obviously, thats the whole theme of the game. So to say he sucks because he's weak to ground and rock isn't really fair.

Not if you include Sableye and his fello Dark/Ghost type. No weak, give them Wonder Guard.

OH MY GOD!!! ARGH ARE YOU GUYS REALLY TALKING ABOUT POKEMON?!!?!
Actually it's more that you're discussing version's past Red and Blue. Obviously nothing can ever measure up to the magic of the originals. And really I go Squirtle all the way bro, any water type is gonna be worth it 'cause they're soooo damn awesome.

I wonder how you'd react to the current games, Mark. So much has changed since then. It's much more complicated than before. The dditional 342 Pokemon is the smallest cause of it.
Hey Brian, I got my issue of Nintendo Power and it revealed something new. The names of Pokemon and their attacks are no long in CAPS LOCK. Why they ever used it, I'll never know.
And I think we broke the DM.

Hmm, interesting. Meanwhile,I recall some huge discussion of Pokemon we had a while ago. I remember we talked about Hitmontop. You were a part of it, too, Mark.

A lot of people mock it because of the TV show. The infamous "Aim for the horn" still runs rampant to this day. But Mark doesn't appear too bothered by Brian and I playing the games.
The games are nothing like the TV show. Ie; Pikachu sucks in the games, and there is no way he'll ever take down a Rhydon. Plus there's the whole limit to just four moves.
I will admit, Pokemon is the biggest merchandise whore out there, the two versions of the games (well, three really, but the third always has a lot of new stuff) the smallest bit of that. So much PokeCrap...

What the hell is "Aim for the horn"?? and a pikachu could take down a rhydon assuming it was a higher enough level. and i think there is a 4 moves limit in the show, they just dont really label it as obviously.
The only real inaccuracies I remember in the show are how Ash catches a Krabby using nothing but a twig, and how he force levels pikachu by wireing him to a water wheel and pumping him full of electricity.

"Aim for the horn" was born when Pikachu was told to Thunderbolt a Rhydon's horn to KO it, ignoring Ground's immunity to Electric attacks. And last I checked, Rhydon will be at least around level 40 or so, since that's close to when he evolves. Unless Pikachu has Hidden Power: Grass or Water, the Light Ball, a pro-Special Attack nature, and Rhydon is being used by someone who doesn't know of Earthquake, Pikachu will lose.
And in that episode, Pikachu used Thunderbolt on Geodude and Onix, both of which are also Ground types. Normal type laws don't exist in that animated world.

If you remember correctly, you would know that the only reason thunderbolt worked on onyx was because pikachus first thunderbolt hit the fire sprinklers on the ceiling, which got onyx wet. And we all know what happens when water and electricity mix, plus the water itself hurt it too.
Also, Pikachu has double-team and slam. If it used double-team enough times to increase its agility, Rhydon wouldn't be able to hit it. Then it could just keep spamming slam which does decent damage. Most of Rhydons moves have crappy accuracy, it would never hurt him. One thing I don't remember though, I'm pretty sure earthquake always hits as long as the opponent doesnt have flying, but was it always like that even in the earlier games? Or am I just confusing it with the fact that in 2 vs 2 battles it hits both opponents and your other friendly pokemon?

Rhydon was in the Fire gym battle, not the Rock one. Even so, a sprinkler is only deadly to witches and Charmander and it's evolutions. If you were to use any Water attack on a Ground type, then tried an Electric attack, the Electric attack would still never work. That's just how the games roll.
Even if Pikachu started using Double Team, Rhydon would use Earthquake from the start. DT has to be used a fair few times to bring you to the point where attacks have a very little chance of hitting, so it would be likely that an Earthquake would get through, pick on Pikachu's bad Defense and type advantage, and destroy the little mouse. Earthquake is 100% Accuracy, but that can be lowered. It's not like Aerial Ace, which always hits but never kills. But I think that either Rhydon or it''s new DP evolution gain Aerial Ace or one of its kind. So DT wouldn't help much. And Rock types resist Normal attacks like Slam.
((And who in their right mind would have Pikachu out there against any Ground type? EQ is the best Ground attack, and they all have it)
If you wish, we can try this out once the game is released. If I were to use Rhydon, it would have Dig, not Earthquake, since the Pokemon that will actually be in my team are claiming that.
Oh, and EQ has always missed Flying types. RSE brought in Levitate as well, so they also avoid it (I still don't get why Magneton doesn't get Levitate). And it does hit all but the user in 2 Vs 2 battles.

Well, for the past ten years, it has been obvious that Ash is trying to kill Pikachu, so it makes complete sense for him to throw it up against Rhydon, or any rock/ground type.
