Saving the topic.
Hey Brian, which starter are you choosing in Diamond/Pearl? I'm taking the Grass Turtle; Fire types in general suck due to the Water and Ground weaknesses, and the Pengy isn't the best Water type (plus I want to use Vaporeon. His HP is awesome).

I usually take the fire or the water starter, never the grass. My reasons on the matter:
Blastoise was the coolest friggen pokemon ever. He was a water type. He was a turtle. He had shoulder mounted cannons. You can not argue with that. This also began where water/ice became my favorite element in any kind of game I've ever played. Thus I usually pick the water type pokemon.
I also sometimes pick the fire type though, usually my second time through the game. Obviously picking the fire type pokemon makes it harder in the beginning, and I like that challenge. Also There are rarely any good fire pokemon in the game, and an obnoxiously large amount of water pokemon. So, starting off with a fire pokemon leaves me the peace of mind in knowing that I wont have to find one later on.
Steve, you should be ashamed in picking the grass pokemon. I mean, it's the easiest starter, kicking the first two gym leaders asses in practically every friggen game. Plus theres usually a decent amount of grass/bug/poison type pokemon in the beginning forest-esque dungeon, if you could even call it that. Also, a grass turtle is a disgrace to my all time favorite pokemon. If anything, it should be a tortoise. I mean, I was angry with torkoal, but as he was obviously a tortoise, I delt with it. This new abomination though, is a disgrace. I mean Venastoise would have been one thing, but this is just lame, even for pokemon.
Also, come on, how can you diss the penguin? Commmme ooooon! Its a friggen penguin. Penguins are, in fact, the coolest creatures in the world. They're on par with humans, if not cooler. (No pun intended... I might be the only one seeing a possible pun).
Anyway, I think they should change the starter pokemon types. Ice, Flying, Fighting will work, except that fighing and flying together as starters kinda makes it bland....
Electric, Ice, Poison might be cool too actually. It wouldn't be kosher though, they don't fit the weakness/strength triangle. Actually, they don't effect each other at all in any positive or negative way. Plus, each types attacks has its own passive effect, paralyze, freeze, and poison, respectively. It might be cool.
P.S. - I'm the water type master. Misty is my bitch.

I'm fairly certain that Water is the fan favorite. I mean, pretty much the only type combo that coupled Water with another that wasn't done was Fire, since it would make no damn sense.
Checking over the 'Dex on Serebii, the only other Fire type prior to the National Dex is Ponyta and it's evolution. A whole 5 Fire types, or 2 that would be their final forms. Pathetic, really.
I like turtles. I mean, back when I first played Blue, I picked Squirtle. It's my reasoning why I'd pick the Grass Turtle. He has great Attack, Defense, and HP, and can boost his Attack and Defense with Curse at the expense of his crap Speed. He also learns Earthquake on his own. At Level 32. That's really early. He also becomes the only Grass/Ground type, similiar to Pengy being the only Water/Steel type. Monkey shares his type combo with Blaziken. The only other early Grass type that is decent would be Roselia's new evolution, but it's a run-of-the-mill Grass/Poison type. There are tons of those. And the turtle has a friggin tree growing on his back! It's like the Buddist mythological turtle/tortoise that carries the Earth on its back.
Pengy is weak against Ground when he gains his Steel type. Water types are supposed to be good against Ground, not bad. If not for that, and Vaporeon being so damn cool, I'd have picked him. Other than that, yes, Penguins are awesome.
I recall that there was possible speculation concerning it changing to Psychic, Dark, and Fighting, but Dark's immunity to Psychic would be lifted. Eh, it's just a tradition to continue with Grass, Fire, and Water.
Oh, and Turtle only kills the first Gym, not the second. Second is Grass while first is Rock. Nintendo sure do like their crappy Geodudes and Onixs. GSC was the only one that didn't have a Rock type Gym as the first.
Everyone else is gonna think we're going too in-depth here.

Why would you go and restart your file? You can easily pump over a hundred hours on a Pokemon game, and with WiFi you can always get the version exclusives easily. Unless you screw up your team and waste all the good TMs, I wouldn't see the point in restarting.

There were more than just 5 fire type pokemon. You are forgetting Growlithe and Arcanine, Vulpix and Ninetales, Magmar, Moltress, and Flareon. Flareon was the only one I actually had to check online because I forgot it. In fact I always hated the fact there was one Eevee and couldn't get all the evolutions in the first game. In fact, Eevee is somewhat of a whore.
The fact that the Penguin, which my sources tell me is called "Piplup", gains steel later on is dumb. It should instead get Ice, as penguins usually live in arctic climates, as compared to wearing metal plating.
The grass-turtle abomination "Turtwig" is a complete rip off of bulbasaur. All they did was give it a shell. I am curiouse as to where your getting this information on its moves and such though.
Psychic, Dark, Fighting would be cool. I myself kinda hate Fighting pokemon, but I would definitely choose a Dark starter.
The games are getting really obnoxious in some respects though. I mean, the new legendary pokemon just suck now. They design them all alike. They throw this armored plating design on em, and all the pattern colored lines going through that seperates the plating. I dunno, I can't describe it properly. It's just like, remember MewTwo? He looked bad-ass with an origional design. The newer ones though, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Latios and Latias, Deoxys, Dialga and Palkia... there is no origionality to it. Even the super secret legendary ones. Mew was origional, it was cute, it even evolved into Mewtwo. Then they get the new guys, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy... Theyre just obnoxious copycats, feeding off the cute, small shape, and they're all psychic too I think. No damn origionality!
Even the gear they use is getting annoying! Was the Pokedex so damn bad? Apparently it was cause they turned it into a phone, and then I don't know what else, but now its a friggen watch called the Poketch. It's not a spelling error, there isn't supposed to be an "e" in there. I think there already was a PokeTech, so instead of just keeping something that worked, or thinking of a better name, they made it look like a watch and took an e out.
And another thing! Whats with this faggy starting character I have to play as? He's just screaming emo all over him. Hes got a gay little scarf, and a gay little berret. He shouldn't be out catching pokemon, he should be sitting in a coffee house writing sad, depressing poetry about how pointless the universe is and how nobody loves him! Plus, whats with the rival now? He's your best friend! What happened to your rival being the kid who kicked sand in your eyes at the playground? No, now hes the kid you've friggen butt buddies with since you were old enough to figure the difference between your ass and your face.
Other things bothering me are the continuing crazy coincidence that theres a friggen pokemon professor living in your tiny, little home town, without a gym, who only has 3 pokemon left.... Team Galaxy is a slightly repetative name for the bad guys too. Also, they look like some horrible fashion fad out of the 80's... If this game teaches children anything, it's to be afraid of people with bowl haircuts. The whole game just needs a new design. Better pokemon too, I mean, just no origionality... its disappointing....
This really turned into a rant... I shouldn't really be that mad, it is a kids game. They could try a little harder though.
Also, once they make a fourth turtle pokemon, I'm going to name them all the Ninja Turtles.

I meant that you can only obtain 5 in Diamond/Pearl before getting the National Dex; they limit you to only 150, most of which are new ones. You can only have Gokuzaru and Rapidash beforehand. I actually have to wait until I get the ND (which you get after beating the Elite 4 and Champ) to even get Eevee. He got the axe when it came to the starting 150.
Yeah, I still don't get what Game Freak was on when they gave "Piplup" the Steel type. Or even his English name. Pochama was much better, as were Naetoru and Hikozaru. Now they're "Turtwig" and "Chimchar". I hate the localization team.
Yeah, Mewtwo, Mew, and the Birds were awesome looking. Luiga, Ho-oh, Celebi, and the Dogs/Gerbils/Whatever The Hell People Call Them were stretching it, but they were fine. Then you get the 10 or so Legendaries brought in in RSE. They all sucked. DP's just making it worse. I thought that "Legendry" is supposed to imply a massive amount of power and rarity; there's somewhere over 30 Legendaries now. Hell, they outnumber the starters!
We really didn't need much more than the PokeDex. They had to add the Gear, the Nav(sounds too much like the fairy. "Hey, list-" *Stab!*), and now the "Tch". Whatever the hell the "Tch" is.
Yeah, the guy trainer looks horrbile. Same goes for Rival.
Well, this is the fourth installment. The series' entering it's 11th year (in Japan at least. We got it in '98). Of course originality is out the window. It could be worse; Pokemon could've gone down the path that Sonic took. At least Secret Rings seems to be saving him a bit.
Technically, there are 4 turtles: Squirtle, Shuckle, Torkoal, and "Turtwig". Only thing is that only the first and last can actually fight; Shuckle only uses Toxic, and Torkoal is a waste of space.
Metal plated penguin, huh... Mobile Suit Penguin!

Serebii.net is the source of all things Pogeyman. They have all the attacks that Pokemon learn, whether it be from leveling, TMs, Breeding, etc. And in all 4 Generations of the games, too. They also have all their Abilities, Natures, Egg Groups, and tons of other crap like that. And it has their basic stats listed as well (before leveling up, Natures, and all that other stuff comes into play).
"Turtwig" learns Curse at level 17, Earthquake at 32 (assuming you let it evolve to it's final form at level 32), and so on. Pengy doesn't learn anything really good til Bubble Beam at 24 (in it's second form). For crying out loud, he learns Water Sport at level 11 for no damn reason, and he SOMEHOW learns Metal Claw at 16 is his second form. It's a PENGUIN; it has flipers, not claws. Monkey gets Mach Punch and Flame Wheel, at least. Those are decent early on.

I do not count shuckle as a turtle. Shuckle is less of a turtle than Lapras could be. And Lapras is not a turtle. Also, Torkoal was cool, I thought erupt was a neat move.

You need to think about what games you want to get for the systems. The only games I can think of you wanting for either ones are SSX Blur, and Coookin Mama. Think about the games.
